Based on 951,591 user benchmarks.  Models: Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB, Samsung SSD 850 EVO, Samsun SSD 850 EVO 250G, Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250G, Samsung SSD 850

The 250GB Samsung 850 Evo has a similar architecture to its hugely successful predecessor, the 840 Evo. Both drives are TLC based but the 850 uses 3D V-NAND as opposed to regular NAND. Both drives also feature a Turbowrite cache (TWC) which buffers up to 3GB of writes. The TWC enables high burst write speeds but when the cache exhausts write speeds drop to 300 MB/s. Comparing the 850 and 840 Evos shows that effective speed, has improved by 11% and the warranty has been extended from three to five years but prices are also up by 11%. The 850 Evo does put in superb benchmarks (second only to the 850 Pro) but these are only valid within the TWC. At current price levels the 850 Evo struggles to compete with the value leaders[Dec '14 SSDrivePro]

This is by far one of the best purchases I have ever made. I swapped it in for my 1TB 5400rpm HDD, and the difference is day and night. I made the TB drive storage, and use this as an OS drive (and some programs like Visual Studio). Overall, it is a great buy!—Jun '15

Really awesome SSD drive from samsung, can really drop out the intel SSD 730 Series that cost x2 his price. —Sep '15

Got this for $80.24 with tax and free shipping included on Newegg's 24hour sale. Fast speed and is awesome after being used to harddrives. Never going back to non-SSD again! Great Price:Performance, costing twice a 1TB Harddrive to get the amount of storage I NEED rather than overkill.—Nov '15

FINALLY ACHIEVED 100% OF BENCHMARK! For those of you having trouble please follow the next recommendations: *** Set up AHCI on your BIOS (to take advantage of NCQ) *** Install Windows or modify it to use AHCI Driver http://goo.gl/tk9An *** Update to latest intel AHCI driver, and use device manager to update. (current on your system probably is old, not taking advantage of new instructions) https://goo.gl/zUIUPe *** Use High Performance as Windows Power Setting *** Create an Over Provisioning Partition on the SSD Enjoy your SSD!!! The Samsung 850 Evo 250GB performs very well. Unfortunately I have issues with deinstalling old divers and installing new drivers in my Windows VM running on Xen. That's probably why my SSD performance is sub-par.—Jun '15

Reliable, big and reasonably cheap. I installed more than 30 of these in upgrade tasks, and they are really nice. Not fast as Pro, but again - nothing is. :-) My main reason for buying these, is reliability. EVO 850 and especially 860 successor are highly reliable.

Top speed without RAID. In RAPID mode (RAM cached) it runs space ship. Very high price/performance value, but it depends on country you buy it in. Despite that 5 year warranty still is a great confidence booster. Bundled cloning software lets noob users transfer everything to your new SSD with 3 clicks (I dunno what if your previous drive is larger, mine was not). All you have to do afterwards is swap your disks places. Some POOR comments are unintentional. I just discovered, that I had left POOR rating 4 days ago. I don't know how it happened.—Feb '15

A good ssd at a reasonable price, especially on sales. Fast and doesn't look half-bad either. Looks like there's some considerable variability between products though so might have to win the hardware lottery.
