The 128GB Samsung 830 is nearly two and a half years old which puts it at a significant disadvantage to more recent models. With peak and average sequential read/write speeds of 512/323 and 410/239 MB/s it's not too shabby, especially considering its age. The sequential figures actually match the current group leaders. The small file 4K peak and average read/write speeds of 22.5/60.3 and 17/40 MB/s are not as impressive and lag the group leaders by 50%. Reduced small file performance weighs on the 128GB 830's effective speed which is 376 MB/s and 20% lower than the average of 453 MB/s for the highest voted group leaders. Finally comparing the 128 and 256GB versions shows that the larger drive has a superior performance profile, which is not uncommon for SSDs but newer models from Samsung don't share this trait. [Feb '14 SSDrivePro]

The OCZ Vertex 460 replaces the Vertex 450. The main difference between the two is a change from Intel/Micron (IMFT) 20nm MLC NAND to Toshiba 19nm MLC NAND, a fitting move considering that Toshiba acquired OCZ shortly before the Vertex 460's release. Comparing the Vertex 460 and 450 shows that the two drives are broadly on a par in terms of performance. In terms of pricing the Vertex 460 is priced reasonably considering its age, I expect prices will drop rapidly as retailers build stocks of the relatively new drive. At current prices the 240GB Vertex 460 represents above average value for money but struggles to compete with its slightly more expensive sibling, the Vector 150. Comparing the 460 and 150 shows that Vector 150 leads in terms of effective speed by 10% but only costs 5% more than the 460. [Mar '14 SSDrivePro]
