The 840 Pro is stunning. Samsung have created a completely in-house package including both the controller and their own new 21nm toggle mode NAND. On release (Oct '12) this was the fastest performing deep queue depth consumer grade SSD available. Fast forward six months (Apr '13) and the 840 Pro still holds both the random read/write deep queue depth speed records of 384 MB/s and 326 MB/s, impressive considering how fast the SSD space tends to move. There are no obvious weaknesses, in-fact the 840 pro takes first place in nearly all of the speed categories and is only seriously rivalled by one drive, the OCZ Vector. To conclude, in terms of both outright performance, particularly server orientated, and value for money the 256GB and 128GB 840 Pros are amongst the top handful of drives currently available. The 128GB Adata Premier Pro SP900 has peak and average sequential read/write speeds of 496/166 and 175/106 MB/s. The average speeds are significantly worse than peak which indicates that the SP900 has an unstable performance profile. Additionally, the peak write speed of 166 MB/s is 90% below the group leaders. In terms of small file 4K read/write speeds things are a little better where the SP900 achieved peak and average scores of 23/83 and 17/29 MB/s. These 4K figures still lag the group leaders by around 40%. The Overall effective speed for the SP900 measures 340 MB/s, the worst I have seen to date on a 128GB SSD. The SP900 is not particularly well priced, and therefore represents poor value for money. There are both faster and cheaper 128GB alternatives available amongst the group leaders. [Feb '14SSDrivePro]
