The 120GB OCZ Vertex 3 is almost 3 years old which makes it twice as old as most of the drives in the group test. With sequential peak and average read/write speeds of 510/157 and 390/130 MB/s the 120GB Vertex 3 has good read speeds but lags the group leaders by 50% at writing. This is explained by its Sandforce 2281 controller which is infamous for stability issues and relatively slow incompressible data write speeds. Small file 4K peak and average read/write speeds clocked in at 31/103 and 23/61 MB/s which matches the group leaders, a superb result considering the Vertex 3's age. Overall the 120GB Vertex 3 has an effective speed of 383 MB/s which is only 16% lower than the group leaders which averaged 444 MB/s. The Vertex is a capable drive let down only by its relatively slow peak sequential write speed of 157 MB/s. [Feb '14 SSDrivePro]

The Crucial T705 is a slightly improved version of the T700. Both are among the first PCIe 5.0 SSDs, offering peak data rates double those of PCIe 4.0. The T705 can reach staggering burst sequential read and write speeds of 15 and 12 GB/s. However, out of cache performance still lies within PCIe 4.0 limits so the T705 doesn’t have a PCIe 5.0 advantage during sustained workloads. The T705 offers around a 5% effective speed advantage over the T700 which is not justifiable at current prices (1TB = $180, 2TB = $300, 4TB = $500). While it may appeal to users looking for almost unparalleled burst performance, most users won’t notice much improvement compared to the WD Black SN850X because of other bottlenecks in a typical system. [Jun '24 SSDrivePro]

 Frequently Asked Questions

 Best User Rated

Why does UserBenchmark have a bad reputation on reddit?
Marketers operate thousands of reddit accounts. Our benchmarks expose their spiel so they attack our reputation.
Why don’t PC brands endorse UserBenchmark?
Brands make boatloads on flagships like the 4090 and 14900KS. We help users get similar real-world performance for less money.
Why don’t youtubers promote UserBenchmark?
We don't pay youtubers, so they don't praise us. Moreover, our data obstructs youtubers who promote overpriced or inferior products.
Why does UserBenchmark have negative trustpilot reviews?
The 200+ trustpilot reviews are mostly written by virgin marketing accounts. Real users don't give a monkey's about big brands.
Why is UserBenchmark the gold standard for users?
Instead of pursuing brands for sponsorship, we've spent 13 years publishing real-world data for users.
